Keeping your hands clean and carrying an alcoholic solution to disinfect them is one of the best prevention measures
Symptoms
The most common symptoms include fever above 100.4 degrees, shortness of breath, cough or general discomfort.
In severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, kidney failure, and other complications.
More severe cases usually occur in older people or who have previous pathologies such as heart disease, lung disease or immunity problems.
Prevention measures
Maintaining good hand hygiene is essential to prevent contagion. Hands are the main vehicle for microbial transmission, and washing them is often the most important measure to prevent the spread of pathogenic germs and prevent infections. Indeed, the WHO itself warns that 25% of respiratory infections could be avoided only by the simple act of washing our hands often and thoroughly.
With soap and water it would be enough to prevent contagion but we don’t always have a place to wash them at our fingertips. To this end, health authorities recommend using antiseptic gels, also known as alcoholic solutions, hand sanitizer or hydroalcoholic gels.
It is also recommended to avoid close contact with people who show signs of respiratory condition, such as coughing or sneezing. Keep a distance of about two meters with people with symptoms of acute respiratory infection. Cover your mouth and nose with disposable handkerchiefs or with the inner face of your elbow at coughing or sneezing and wash your hands right away.
Finally, it is important to avoid sharing food or utensils (covers, glasses, napkins, handkerchiefs, …) and other objects without cleaning them properly.
